Hello all

Recently surfaced Dreyfus Hudson.. runs very smoothly

Scaft Craft chassis , Lionel 700 / 763 front pilot & cylinders , and Lobaugh rear truck.

Body brass ...nose may be an old ice cream scoop .

Found sans tender ....however a Niagara tender ( Max Gray+-) was acquired at the same sale ...so NYC matched them up postwar for a super Hudson ....

Joe Fischer streamlined 20th Century Limited cars ...Bristol board sides, wood roofs & floors... Lobaugh trucks

Engine from 1940's ...tender & cars 1950's

Please see link for action packed video

Carey, we really have to wonder did the collector maybe actually plan to use that Niagara tender with the Dreyfus since he also didn’t have a corrext tender? Also makes you wonder, as well as that model was done, there had to be a tender matching it at some point from the original builder. To find that would be spectacular!

The builder of the Dreyfus is known from Rochester, NY ..built in the 1938-41 window ..just need to find out his name ....there was a tender ...standard 12 wheel variety.....
Hopefully the tender will surface in time ....as well as the tender for the other engine I bought at the auction ...

Fun sale of vintage O ....heaviest collection of Saginaw ever found at one location .

I take it this was not a Stout auction? Sounds like you two got some real bargains. Here are some of Carey's photos:

Somehow they look a lot better here than on OGR.

That is a very nice late 1930s effort. I am helping Corey with a similar vintage locomotive that is very close to hopeless. Tonight I will make a gauge to check the quarter, and from what I am seeing I am not expecting much in the way of precision.

You have seen my Dreyfus Hudson - I modified a Williams boiler/cab, made my own frame and drivers, got Dennis to cast some side rods from my patterns, and did a wood block tender over a Lobaugh Centipede truck. Unlike many of my recent models, this one runs, with Pittman 8224 and NWSL.

By the way, that wood block solution is great for planning - I have done maybe four, and they aid in getting the brass the correct size. Carey's model appears to be 17/64, and his KTM tender is of course 1/4" scale, so down the line he may need to try the wood block idea.

A couple of my wood blocks have survived as permanent tenders - from here I can see an SP 120 C Vanderbilt behind a Lobaugh Mountain, and it looks just as good as the rivetless Lobaugh version. My Lobaugh NP Challenger likewise has a wood block, since that prototype was all welded, and my giant AC-4 has a wood block under its embossed brass sides. The secret, for exposed wood, is lacquer-based sanding sealer.

The difference between full scale 1/4" and 17/64 is usually not obvious until you park the two together. Check these out:

Hello Bob thank you for adding the photos

Yes this engine came from the recent Stout auction ... Niagara tender came with an early Ken Henry or Icken ....
Fingers crossed both correct tenders will surface in time.

Appreciate your hard work on the SP 2-10-2 and resisting the temptation to throw it at the wall .

If you like the Fischer cars ...they were being pulled around by an Exacta EMC E7 (1947) last night ...cast bronze , 2 K&D #3 motors

WOW, that "Creek" series observation-sleeper-lounge is a really NICE build given what was available then.
The whole wad is fabulous, I concur with Dennis with that beautimous J-3 in the Buck Roger's ray gun shrouding deserves a matching tender.

Carey, your nose for this stuff is uncanny 8^)

I was comparing my Scale Craft Hudson tender to my Min-i-Scale Hudson tender the other day, stressing because my Min-i-Scale Hudson has Lobaugh trucks under it ( to small ). I was surprised to find the tenders are the same size, except the Scale Craft is slightly narrower. I checked my scale drawings and sure enough the Scale Craft tender is to big for 1/4 scale its not exactly 17/64 scale, but pretty close. The Loco however is very close to 1/4 scale. There's a lot of mixing and mismatching going on.It doesn't stop the fun though.

Many "scale" pieces were designed with sliding rulers .....
The Hudson & Mikado by SC were designed by the same guy ...boilers being 1/4" ..+-
The K4 and SP's with the sheet brass construction are much closer to the 17/64" line ...
