Today’s advisory from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Federal Trade Commission is an important step toward addressing deceptive tactics in the solar industry and helping consumers gain the confidence to safely invest in solar energy, which can lower their utility bills and reduce harmful carbon emissions. Most people going solar have a positive experience. But like other fast-growing industries, the rampant expansion of solar energy has opened the door to a small subset of bad actors. The U.S. Department of Energy has partnered with Treasury, CFPB, FTC, and other agencies to coordinate efforts to monitor the market to identify trends and propose solutions for fraudulent and predatory behavior. This new partnership across the federal government will enable DOE to access data and develop programs to tackle consumer protections in those communities that need it most. We are supporting several efforts that are examining the extent and nature of predatory practices happening in the marketplace, developing resources to educate consumers, and working with industry to establish strong consumer protection standards. U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Water Power Technology Office (WPTO) is making a splash this week with two new reports, one on hydropower supply chain analysis and the other on hydropower for Alaska’s energy grid. Integrating more hydropower in the electric grid means building a robust domestic supply chain. DOE’s new Hydropower Supply Chain Analysis identifies three areas of focus to help achieve a clean U.S. electricity grid by 2035.🌊 Define the market for rehabilitations and new construction of the hydropower fleet.🌊 Provide insights for policies, incentives, loan programs, and technology investments to encourage domestic content.🌊 Define the existing and required domestic hydropower manufacturing capabilities and workforce.Learn more: https://lnkd.in/enM8EsAXThe second report emphasizes the importance of tidal energy systems for a more resilient grid in Alaska. Tidal energy systems capture power through the movement of water as tides go in and out. WPTO and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory published a study that quantifies the important role tidal energy could play in Alaska’s largest power grid, the Railbelt. According to the study, tidal energy could help reduce the grid’s carbon emissions by up to 37%. Tidal energy could fulfill about 14% of the Railbelt’s total electrical demand in 2035 or even 20% once planned Railbelt upgrades are complete. On this Farmworker Appreciation Day, EERE is shining a spotlight on America’s farmers who put food on our tables—and clean energy onto our power grid. We’re proud to collaborate with these clean energy champions who go the extra mile to support healthier, cleaner communities nationwide. With over 560 agrivoltaics projects currently active, American farmers are already finding opportunities to optimize the use of their farmland with co-located clean energy projects: https://lnkd.in/eki_ETXX EERE is proud to support America’s farmers through programs like the upcoming Large Animal and Solar System Operations (LASSO) Prize, awarding a cash prize to projects that co-locate clean energy and grazing pastures: https://lnkd.in/gXrpy8QD We’re also committed to providing you with the resources you need to start your own energy project on your farm. U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and USDA partnered this January to host listening sessions that improve our understanding of clean energy projects on farmlands. Read through these FAQs and resources from the sessions that can help you start your energy journey today: https://lnkd.in/gyvCYYWu Want to learn more about the “moo”tual benefits of agriculture and clean energy?
