Don’t you just hate itwhen anice, calm day atwork gets ruined bythe most mundane event? Like when you accidentally hit “reply all”, for instance. From sassy bosses toawkward comments and broken printers, here are 10minor incidents that turned into full-on workplace chaos.
- Amanager kept bringing cakes toraise morale abit. One ofthe office groups reported him tohigher management because they were all always trying todiet, and apparently hewas “spoilingit”. Hestopped bringing cakes and sweetsin.
None ofthem ever even lost any noticeable amounts ofweight, bythe way.©rezonansmagnetyczny/ Reddit
- Igot called into ameeting because someone reported mefor looking ataband’s website atmydesk. The manager was even all, “Don’t try todenyit!”
Iwas just soshocked thatI was being reprimanded for looking toBon Jovi’s website onmybreak. Itwasn’t like itwas something inappropriate oranything. This was over 20years ago, andI still chuckle atthe ridiculousness ofthe whole thing! ©Kaapstad2018/ Reddit
- Iwas getting frustrated with the constant complaints about the printer, especially since itworked just fine. One day, Isaw acolleague leaving anote onit. Itread: “Please fix this, it’s broken again.” Iwrote back onthe same note, “It’s not broken, it’s YOU who doesn’t know how touseit!”
Iwas shocked when they confronted meinfront ofthe whole department the next day. Mynote set this person off because they labeled itpassive-aggressive. They even went asfar assaying I“lacked ahealthy work ethic.” Weended uphaving toinvolveHR toclear the air.
- Iouted anaffair bymistake whenI was anapprentice. Iknew that one ofthe managers had just gotten married. Igot sent tothe end ofthe table with her atthe Christmas meal.
Next toher was aguy from aworkshop whomI didn’t really know either. Itwas soobvious that they were inarelationship, butI just assumed itwas her husband.
The next Monday, Isaid something about sitting with her and her husband. Iwas told that’s not her husband, her husband isX.The rumor spread around that she was seeing the guy from the workshop. Acouple ofweeks later, she got divorced from her husband and was pregnant with the other guy’s kid, soshe married again.©spaceshipcommander/ Reddit
- There was this horrible lady atmyold workplace whenI worked inataxi dispatch. She was generally astereotypical Karen, complete with the haircut and everything.
She ranted and accused meofbeing a“fake vegan” whenI was handing out 100% vegan snacks toeveryone who was working that night. Beyond me. She was just anall-around workplace teaser. Ithink mystonewalling her sent her off, soI became her target.©TheFungiQueen/ Reddit
- Someone was stealing mylunches atwork for the whole week. Ileft anote onthe fridge that said: “Stop stealing myfood!” The next day, Iwas shocked tosee anew note right besideit: “Fine. I’ll stop ifyou finally talk tome.” Ifroze.
Turns out, itwas myexwho recently got hired inanother department. Hehad recognized myname onthe containers and, insome twisted attempt toreconnect, started taking myfood. Weended uphaving areal conversation acouple ofdays later. Nobody’s touched mylunch since.
- Before our previous manager left (read: hewas forced out), heordered ugly hot pink chairs for the conference room, which wewon’t have the budget toreplace for atleast 5years. They are also extremely uncomfortable. Ithink our department has stuck mainly toZoom meetings inthe past years toavoid sitting inthem. Gotta respect the petty, though.©dredreidel/ Reddit
- Recently, Ifound out that one ofthe senior members onmyteam has been telling mysupervisor thatI have noskills. Icurrently work inbuilding maintenance with abackground incarpentry. Itjust sohappens that this person is60years old and also specializes incarpentry.
This has resulted inmegetting all the most basic and boring work. Ifind myself having nothing todofor most ofmydays. Instead ofbringing this uptomysupervisor orHR, I’m just embracingit. I’ve read asolid number ofbooks this year and get towork onmywriting, all while I’m atwork.©Unknown author/ Reddit
- Iwas working onabig project back inthe day. Iaccidentally sent adraft ofmypresentation tothe whole team. Itwas riddled with mistakes and even some nasty jokes about the project. Iknow, Iknow, but itwas meant tobeprivate.
Iquickly sent afollow-up email explaining the mistake. One colleague forwarded the email tolots ofpeople, sayingI should beimmediately fired, given how totally “unprofessional” Iwas. You know the type: the one who’s always abit too eager tocriticize.
Itsparked anentire scandal, with more colleagues getting involved, and soon the whole office knew. Iwas mortified. The situation escalated when mymanager had tointervene, tellingus tostop arguing like children. Itwas awkward for weeks.
- Our coworker isrefusing tochip in$3for anacho party. Myboss ismad and said, “Iknow hehas $3 ’cause hejust got his hair dyed and cut!” Ialso found out that afew weeks ago, myboss said tohis face, “Take that hat off, you look like aderanged person!” Nowonder he’s mad aboutit, and that’s probably why he’s not giving the$3. ©Grogu918/ Reddit
